Nantucket is home to gorgeous beaches, untouched nature preserves, and stunning landscapes, all within just more than 100 square acres. While the times we are living in feel very foreign, we can still enjoy our time doing the activities we love with some minor adjustments. If you're visiting Nantucket, we've put together some of our favorite ways to enjoy the island while still being safe and practicing social distancing.
Nantucket Travel Tips
Getting to Nantucket while practicing safe social distancing may seem challenging, but there are several ways to be sure you and those around you are staying safe and healthy.
First, be sure to understand current regulations and laws on the Island during your time here. As a small, isolated community, it's important as ever to be respectful while traveling.
Bring your car on the ferry so you can minimize interaction once you arrive on Nantucket. The Steamship Authority offers year-round service from Hyannis to Nantucket and allows you to travel with your car.
Go for a Bike Ride
If you need to rent a bike, Nantucket Bike Shop and Easy Rider Bicycles both offer bike rentals during the summer season. You can order a rental bike through either of these providers for pick up or delivery to your door. Biking is a great way to not only get some exercise but also to enjoy the beautiful Nantucket weather and see nature throughout the island. Our favorite places to go for a ride include the 'Sconset Bike Path and the Madaket Bike Path.
Explore Nantucket Open Lands
Nantucket boasts thousands of acres of protected and preserved lands to explore without seeing another person! The Nantucket Land Bank protects some of the most beautiful open lands on the island. Go for a walk along the trails of Smooth Hummocks Coastal Preserve, Shawkemo Hills, or Gardener Farm. Nantucket Conservation also has plenty of options for social distancing hiking.
Unwind at the Beach
Nantucket is home to some of the world's most beautiful beaches. The wide-open Nantucket beaches offer plenty of space to be secluded while listening to the crashing waves and songs of the seabirds. Bring a blanket or beach towels, a good book, and plenty of water and snacks for the afternoon.
Enjoy an Outdoor Meal
You can have a barbecue at your Nantucket rental home or order take out from a local restaurant to enjoy in your personal outdoor space. Many restaurants are offering curbside and no-contact pickup so that you can still indulge in Nantucket's delicious cuisine. Otherwise, order a custom picnic lunch through our concierge services or by stopping by a local grocery store like the Nantucket Meat and Fish Market or Stop & Shop.
